Well, that is certainly a very colorful FAQ. Haven't seen anyone do that before; it looks nice.
Since you're traveling all the time, it's best to stick to a 13-14" machine. The HP dv2000t looks like an excellent choice here. Great quality and a nice keyboard, plus an optional (weak, although far better than integrated GMA950 graphics) dedicated Nvidia graphics card.
You could also look for a lower-spec'd Sony SZ series, which will be more portable. Dell's XPS M1210 is another nice option.

I agree with Chaz on the HP dv2000t. The Sony VAIO SZ is also very nice...but more expensive like he noted.

What's your field of study?

Re: Graduate Student needs all-around good performing computer
ya man whats your field of study is it law or commerce??
but whatever youre studying i would point you in the direction of one of those lappies with a rotatable camera and microphone.. this way you can record your lectures... dude youll have to look around at what has that though... im not too sure because im looking for a performance lappie so the camera becomes less of a priority for me.. plus, even if i recorded my lectures i think i will stick to watching jessica alba movies...
but if youre not a fan of that whole idea, why not look at some fujitsu - they have awesome battery life and build, or maybe an ibm - they also have awesome build

I third the dv2000t, its a good priced, stylish 14" laptop that will suit your needs. I don't suggest getting anything above a 14" if you will be traveling with it all the time.
