Question:
Compaq V3000t or ThinkPad R51e
I have narrowed my choices down to 2, for different reasons.
1) Compaq V3000t. Core Duo T2050 + 1 GB RAM + 40GB HDD (5400rpm). $700 after taxes.
2) Thinkpad R51e. Pentium M 730 + 512 MB Ram + 40GB HDD (5400rpm). $800 after taxes.
I am tempted towards the Compaq as I think it is a great config for the price, and should last me long, if the build quality is good. But the thinkpad config is enough for my present purposes (grad school), and I have heard Thinkpads give less trouble. Which one should I buy, based on the price vs build quality tradeoff?
Also, if I do buy the compaq, does it make sense to get another $100 worth of extra warranty cover for express repair etc?
Thanks

Re: Compaq V3000t or ThinkPad R51e
I'd say go for the Compaq V3000t, it has duo-core technology which is a must these days as it is faster than the Pentium M plus is energy efficient. As for problems, so far i haven heard like really serious problems regarding the V3000. Plus, its really nice looking~ :)
On the warranty, if u feel insecure that you might broke or the machine will malfunction after one year, u can get it. Its up to you.

I reviewed some other websites, and did not find much info about the V3000t build quality. While I understand that the v3000t will not be built like business laptops, but are there any persistent negative aspects to the v3000t?
