_________
I've been reading that the build quality of the lenovo is superior to that of the compaq. However, I've also read about lenovo's atrocious shipping delays and I would like to receive my laptop before september begins. Would ordering a lenovo that's already preconfigured be much faster or at least reasonable? (ie. a few days to a week to ship). I'm in Canada so I don't know if that makes a difference. Or should I just go with the compaq?

Re: compaq or lenovo
I would get the lenovo because of the better keyboard and its a little bit cheaper. I had bad experiences with compaq keyboards, they tend to feel filmsy. However, if you are not picky about keyboards, then the compaq is a little bit faster because it has more memory, but you can easily upgrade the memory in the lenovo (check whether it has 1x512mb or 2x256, you will need to lose at least 256mb memory when upgrading if its the later case)
If you can spend a little bit more $900, then a core duo processor will be a lot better, I recommend you take a look at the toshiba A100 and the dell 6400. It will be worth the 200 dollars extra.
