Compaq Presario v6030us - Bout to buy.

I'm about to pull the trigger on this. It has a 64 bit dual core plus 256mb of video ram. My only question is the battery life. I was quoted 3 hours as real world average at compusa store, but somehow I doubt that with a 6 cell battery. Does anyone know anything about this computer, it seems like an unbelievable deal!

For $900 it seems like a pretty good deal, but the GPU is actually pretty weak if you're planning to game, and while I've always liked AMD desktop CPUs, I think the Core Duo is a better notebook processor. Don't know what your budget is, but for another $170 the following looks much stronger, at least in terms of graphics: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834115246

Two final thoughts: 1) the amount of memory available for graphics can be quite misleading with respect to GPU performance, i.e., the x1600 with 128 MB will significantly outperform many 256 MB options; 2) 64-bit is nice but probably won't make a lot of difference for some time.
