HP Pavilion dv5236eu vs dv5296ea (is it worth it?)

Question:
HP Pavilion dv5236eu vs dv5296ea (is it worth it?)
Hello there, first of all I would like to say this is by far the most helpfull resource when it comes to laptops, the amount of variety (brands/products) and users is impressive :)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok here is the deal, and you have to wonder why are these 2 different laptops being compared. So here is the explanation:
I'm looking into get a laptop for vacations, trips, ocassional outside work and whatnot, but always keeping my trusty desktop(s), no gaming...(mostly to watch a movie, dreamwaver, photoshop, word,browsing,etc..)
I bougth a Asus A6Jc-q311h and it was unpleasant to say the least and ended up returning it.
The experience was good to look into my expectations and needs so now that I'm ready to buy a new laptop i'm wondering if its wise and rational to spend 1300€ on a laptop when I will not be using it for gaming, or rely it as primary computer when there are also valid options for 830€.
While I feel the "need" to have the best "just in case", the rational-me think its a waste of money to say the least...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The laptops in question are:
HP Pavilion dv5236eu
AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile ML-34
1024 MB RAM
80 GB (PATA/4200rpm)
ATI RADEON® XPRESS 200M IGP
HP Pavilion dv5296ea
Intel® Core™ Duo T2500
1024 MB RAM
120 GB (SATA/5400rpm)
NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7400
besides this one other similar priced alternative was:
LG P1-J555P

Intel® Core Duo T2300
1024MB RAM
100GB (SATA)
ATI Radeon X1400
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please keep in mind my needs/requirements and the fact that the price difference is 450€ ~ $580 that could be used in a bigger desktop screen and a digital photograph machine.
I guess that the prospect of having the Turion is a bit scary and the Core Duo is "fresh and powerfull", even tho I will not be taking proper advantage of dual-core on the laptop (on the desktop is a different story)
Thanks in advance for the feedback and sorry for the long post :D

You could consider the HP nx6325 - good on a budget. The Acer Aspire 5100 is another. If you have to choose between those two, I'd say you are probably better off with the cheaper one. You already have a powerful enough desktop it seems.

I would avoid AMD on Laptops, but other than that if your on a tight budget, the 7400 and 1400 wont have much difference performance wise. So out of the last 2 you posted whichever you think fits your needs and budget more.

Here i can only find the NX6310 (980€)
the problem with said laptop would be the screen (15'' vs 15.4'') on the rest well the HDD can later be upgraded, and same goes for the ram (need at least 1GB)

What exactly are the problems with AMD on laptops, while I know Intel is the king of the hill I'm yet to know the problems with the Turion's (I guess it has something to do with the platform not being so unified and a "patch" of products rigth?)
The price difference betewn the LG P1 and the HP 5296ea is almost 0€...and while the HP has a bigger hdd (100 vs 120) and faster cpu (T2300 vs T2500), the screen on the LG seems to be better, plus i'm fund of the unique design/built of it)

AMD just has never really made an effort to surpass Intel on a mobile platform, where as AMD has made such an effort on the Desktop platform. Its just AMD really needs to improve on mobile processors.

I could also get myself a Acer (that I don't care much about the reputation since Asus proved themselfs to be...well...)
Acer 1644WLMI
Intel Pentium M 760 2.0 Ghz
1GB ( 2x 512MB)
100GB
DVD Dual/ Dual Layer
15,4 WXGA CristalBrite 1280 x 800 pixel
Intel® 915GM 128MB shared
for 800€
