What are you going to do with it? The e1705 is in my opinion one of Dells better offerings and a good budget gaming notebook.

I definitely enjoy video games as well, I was also looking at perhaps a X1600 or a Geforce 7600, as the more money I save the better. It doesnt have to run all games to the best just be acceptable.

Re: Computer Advice
As long as 17" isn't too big for you, I think this is a good choice.
A smaller laptop wouldn't give you the option of the go 7900 GS as I'm sure you already know. I think on a smaller laptop you might be able to get slightly better components and a better build at the cost of GPU power for the same price though.

Re: Computer Advice
The Dell is of course much more powerful since it has a better GPU and faster HD. But if you can save $500 and you'd be OK with what the HP gives you, I would say go for it. The HP is definitely a capable gaming machine--just not so much as the Dell is.

Edit: Also how is 1440x900 for gaming and general viewing?
Edit #2: Is memory easily accessible on HP Laptops, I know it is for dell. And will changing the memory void the warranty, I'd assume no but better safe than sorry.

Re: Computer Advice
You should check some screens out if you can because everyone is different. There are two memory slots and upgrading it does not void the warranty.
