Gaming Laptop Screen Question

Question:
Gaming Laptop Screen Question
17.0" WXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)
I was wondering if the screen above would be suitable for playing video games?
I still enjoy playing Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne, which are older games, anyone know if I could play it with the screen above. It doesnt have to necessarily support older games, but it will support current and future ones right?
I just want to be sure the screen is perfect for what I need, as the computer components are perfect.
Thanks

Re: Gaming Laptop Screen Question
the screen is obviously going to be a huge part of your gaming experience, so your concern is totally justified.
that said, i do most of my gaming at 1024 x 768 for new games or 1280 x 1024 for games slightly older, and i find these resolutions stellar. at 800 x 600 i see a sharp decline in detail. so with 1440 x 900 your resolution choice is an excellent complement between required graphics power and detail you will see.
also, 17 inches is great for an lcd, and brightview is excellent if you like the glossy screen and can avoid glare. personally i dont like it, but i wont be playing games on your monitor either ;). if you havent seen brightview in action, i would go to your local computer store and check it out.
one thing i would worry about though with lcd's in general is interpolation.
you really are going to want to run games at the native resolution of the display, and avoid scaling a lower resolution up to fit your monitor (ie. taking an 800 x 600 image and stretching it and zooming in to make it 1440 x 900), so make sure you have the video processing power to run the games you want at that resolution, and you might need to do a little google hunting to figure out how to force games into supporting your resolution.
the widescreen aspect for some games (especially older games like warcraft 3) requires tweaking registry entries or possibly other semi-advanced measures.
