Built in TV Tuner

Built in TV Tuner
I need to get rid of my TV in order to conserve space in my tiny bedroom. I also need to replace my 5 year old notebook. I am looking for a laptop that has built in TV Tuner. Are they any good? Is the quality the same with regular TV?

Re: Built in TV Tuner
Most laptops that do come with built in tuners are in the 17" plus range and are desktop replacements - checkout the Sager forum, their built in tuners are pretty good. Alternatively, you could get a tuner card either in PCMCIA form or Express Card form. Currently, the latter has only 1 seller: HP. If you fill in more details in terms of your other requirements (price range, screen etc...) posters will be able to provide a better recommendation.

So, here are my requirements:
1. Picture and sound quality must be as good as regular TV. I don't want any artifact that normally doesn't show up with regular TV.
2. Built in comb filter.
3. USB or Firewire. I hesitate to use PCCard since frequent plugging in and out will eventually wear out the connector. PCI is out of the question since I don't have a desktop computer.
4. The TV Tuner will be used for watching regular cable TV channel (I have no need for HD), watching laserdisc movies and playing Atari 2600 console (Don't laugh :) ).
5. Price doesn't matter
6. Will work well with Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz notebook with 2GB RAM.
I currently use AverTV Box 7 which is an external TV Tuner that doesn't need a PC. It is connected to my monitor. The quality is poor. My 11 year old Sony TV is much better, especially when viewing laserdisc movies.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Built in TV Tuner
You might want to check out the accessories forum as well:

Memory is hazy here but Sager might have a 15" with a built in tuner and some external tuner can now process HD signals. Don't know about comb filter since I presume you'll be watching on your notebook which is LCD so the refresh will be better. External will be through USB usually but I don't think the PCcard slots will be worn out as quickly as you suspect and the same could be said of USB. Checkout Mglia, I think they have a pretty good product out there right now.

Some countries also integrates a DVB-Tuner into the BenQ Joybook S73G as well. (Sniff...not in Hong Kong though)
BenQ Joybooks are only available in Asia and Europe.
