At first I read a T2500 and was holy...O_O for less than 1k? haha. But then I realized it was T2050.
Asus s96j without upgrading anything is better (in my opinion) and is about $950. The $100 is merited. And personally I don't like HP notebooks :-p

Re: 98% sure this is what I'm gonna get...
I'm a little leary of Acer due to what I have heard personally. I was told by three repair guys that they see more Acers and Averatecs than anything. In fact, they told me to "beware the evil A's". I'm sure they weren't talking about the baseball team. :-p
Of course, I've taken into consideration that you only hear the bad stuff 99% of the time, and nobody bothers to tell you the good.
On to HP. I have had tremendous luck with HP products. (Printers and CD-burners). I bought my current CD burner back in 2001 and it hasn't failed me a single time. I've burned probably 350 cds and all of them have been flawless. Same story with the printers... they just work. So, in short, my past experiences with HP have lead me to believe that they are a strong brand. They get great reviews and their keyboards are supposedly really good. Another huge plus for them, in my opinion, are their Altec Lansing speakers. I've done my fair share in comparing speakers (Altec Lansing, Harmon/Kardon, whatever they put in Vaois, etc.) and the Altec Lansings have been the most impressive by far. They seem to retain their clarity at full volume... which is more than I can say for the Harmon/Kardons.
Anyways, this reply is getting long winded. I appreciate everyone's input and I don't mean to bash Acer, but I'm just not sure I'm comfortable with one.
Thanks again.

That's a very good deal for the money, especially with the Go7400 and 1GB RAM/80GB 5.4k HDD. If it fits your needs, then go for it.

Re: 98% sure this is what I'm gonna get...
Well, good luck with your HP.
HOWEVER! Don't confuse Acer or Averatec with Asus, COMPLETELY different. Acer sucks, Averatec sucks, but Asus rocks. There must be another A, because Asus isn't one you should beware of. Just take a look at the Asus forum and you'll see nearly everyone completely satisfied with their Asus. Besides, why do you think there's an average of 30 people viewing the Asus forum at one time, versus like 5 in any other manufacturer?

Don't confuse Acer or Averatec with Asus
That is EXACTLY what I just did. I guess I read through too fast. The "Asus" will be worth looking into. As a matter of fact, my desktop's motherboard is an Asus model.
Thanks for pointing that out. I probably wouldn't have caught my mistake. Acer and Averatec are the evil A's... not Asus.
EDIT: Where is the best place to customize/buy Asus laptops? I'd like to throw a few configurations around and see what I can come up with.

Re: 98% sure this is what I'm gonna get...
Some places off the top of my head:
powernotesbook.com
btotech.com (formally geared2play.com)
milestonepc.com
You could also try buying a barebones kit and putting it together. This might save a hundred or two? Don't quote me on that part :-p (I actually need to find that out for myself haha)
*edit*
I forgot about proportable.com as well =X

That dv5000t is a steal! Take it and run! I also had good experiences with HP - computers, laptops, and printers alike.
You can't pass up that price for an HP.

Re: 98% sure this is what I'm gonna get...
I customized one on milestonepc.com an hour or so ago and it landed me at about $1250 before tax/shipping for comparable specs. Are you sure that configuration can be had for $950?
