Question:
Business student that will be travelling and loves games!!
Hey guys, I'm in need of a notebook, before we get to the standard questions, I just wanted to list some "musts":
I'm looking for a Core 2 Duo solution the 7200 2.0ghz looks like the sweetspot for me.
2gigs of ram at 667mhz
a vid-card at least equal to a x1600
I know I might be a bit early on the core 2 duo, but it never hurts to try.
Here's the normal questions, thanks guys!
1) What is your budget?
maximum $3000 CANADIAN, but that would be tax inclusive, of course cheaper is better, I really hoped for something in the 2000-2300 range (taxes out)
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
I was thinking a 14-15.4inch notebook
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
lots of Microsoft office (excel/ppt/word), web browsing quite extensively
gaming (i would like to play oblivion with at least decent graphics), CS:source etc
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
I'll be travelling quite extensively with it, to university everyday
I'll be taking it on my exchange to Hong Kong as well in the winter
5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
CS:source, Oblivion, WC3
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
I would prefer a major brand as I know of their quality, however, I am always open to suggestions
7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
Not too picky here, usually will have a plug somewhere, 2-3hours should suffice
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
I would prefer seeing it in person, however if online is the only option, I'm okay with it.
9) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in?
I'll be purchasing this in Canada
Screen Specifics
10) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
Widescreen please.
11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
e. WSXGA+ - 1680x1050; Wider viewing version of SXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
f. WUXGA - 1920x1200; Wider viewing version of UXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
I don't know if it really matters, I'll using a notebook indoors often, so glossy should be too much a problem.
Either or.
Build Quality and Design
13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
Not particularly, but the prettier, the better
14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last? Roughly 4-5 years
Notebook Components
15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 160GB?
At least 100, if the speed gain from a 7200rpm drive is significant, I would settle for perhaps something like a 80gig 7200rpm
16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive?
DVD-RW please
Again, thanks a lot for any help you guys can offer, I'd greatly appreciate if you could perhaps link recommendations, thanks!

Re: Business student that will be travelling and loves games!!
nothing right now has the core 2 duo, AND a 14.1 inch with a dedicated card.
The closest that i can think of is the Dell XPS M1210. It has the Merom chip, a go7400 (not as powerful as you would like) 12.1 inch screen (not as big as you would like)

WJ3 would suit your needs. Geared2play offers the Core2Duo on the W3J if I'm not mistaken.
