Question:
Evesham Voyager C545 Plus
Hi
I was hoping that some of you could help me with a decision I am going to be making in the next few weeks. I'm looking at buying an Evesham C545 Plus to replace my current Toshiba P20 laptop. The Toshiba has been a great laptop over the last 3-4 years but with only a 32MB graphics card, viewing DVDs and playing my favourite games is becoming increasingly difficult and at over 4Kgs it is becoming a pain to carry around.
I was wondering if anybody out there has any experience of owning a C545 Plus or had any experience with buying / support from Evesham?
I was looking at the C545 Plus with :
Core Duo - T2500 - 2GHz
2GB Memory
100GB 7200rpm HDD
14.1" WXGA X-Bright Widescreen (1280x800)
256MB ATI X1600
DVD/CDRW/Dual Layer DVD-RW Drive
Internal Digital TV Tuner
Plus most of the other bits and pieces you would expect on an portable laptop of this size.

I would also be interested in knowing what performance difference there is between the T2500 - 2GHz and the T2400 - 1.83GHz processors?
For an extra £50, at first glance there does not appear to be much of a performance increase.
The main things I will be doing with the laptop are :
Using spredsheets, MS Word, MS Money etc. Home type applications basically. Surfing the internet and a few games. Mostly things like Civilization VI and Pirates.
Are there any other laptops I should be considering? My budget is in the region of £1,000 to £1,500.
Thanks very much for taking the time to have a look at this. Its my first post on a forum and any hints / tips you have for me on posting would be great.
Wrighty

Re: Evesham Voyager C545 Plus
Although I have not heard anything good about Evesham I havent heard anything bad either. They get regular reviews in the PC mags and so I would be happy to buy from them.
They are overpriced though and the best 14.1" gaming rig is the Zepto Znote 6214 here. you can configure the components yourself. They are cheaper so you can getter a better config for the same price or the same config for a lesser price.
I would not buy the 2.0GHz core duo as its only a 5% increase in power from the 1.83GHz. Even then its only noticeable if yur run your computer at 100% load all the time. You will not feel the difference betwen any core duo as they clock down automatically to save power. For what you will be using it for I would say the 1.66GHz if more than enough power for you.

Thanks for the info Radditz.
The only problem I have with Zepto is I have read quite a few posts and reviews in PC mags that the Zepto's have poor screens. As I am going to be sitting in front of it quite a bit the screen issue puts me off.
As for the processor, i think i will definately bin the idea of the 2GHz processor, although its only £30 to upgrade to the 1.83GHz one so I may stick with that.

Re: Evesham Voyager C545 Plus
The evesham isnt that badly priced as you get a tv tuner and MCE for about 100GBP more than the equivilent zepto. I in fact ordered a c545 plus but i found the customer service pretty poor. they promised a delivery date which had to be met and they blew it be being nearly 2 weeks over date and then when i found they hadnt even made the thing I pulled out the deal.
They also tried to make me buy xp pro saying you need it for dual cre to work properly which is balls. However i ordered pro but this then conflicted with the tuner thus delaying the order even more
However this is a reivew for the benq s73 which is identical:http://www.kaitech.hk/component/opti...c,637.msg3169/
I think it looks a great laptop and my experiance may have been because it was a new model.
Though the screen on my zepto really isnt that bad at all though it is the crytal clear version.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I will definately give Evesham a go. Although I will certainly not want XP Pro on my machine.
I'm not too worried about the delivery time as my current laptop is still working fine, albeit a tad slow.
Thanks again.

Re: Evesham Voyager C545 Plus
I have just heard from Evesham that the new Core 2 Duo will be installed in the C545 in the next 2-3 weeks and I will be waiting until that happens before I place my order.
I would suggest that anybody else considering the C545 to do the same and if you have one on order to see if you can cancel and re-order when the Core 2 Duo is available.

Re: Evesham Voyager C545 Plus
The Core 2 Duo is now available for this machine on the Evesham website. I placed my order yesterday and should have my machine within 1-2 weeks. (might be a day or so longer than normal due to me going for the buy now, pay 9 months offer). As soon as I have it up and running, i'll post a short review of the machine.

Great to hear! How you spec it. What was the service like?
Im looking foward to the review. That notebook seems to have been forgotten due to the zepto hype.
