Apple Macbook vs. Sony SZ
Which laptop should I get for portability and performance at the same time. I want something that will...
1. Last long
2. Can take a beating
3. long battery
4. Education
I heard that the Macbook can be used for windows xp with the exact SAME PERFORMANCE as pc. And I hope to get vista installed later on. Which brand is more reliable as to the machine running well for a long period of time. Here in Canada, the macbook is noticeably cheaper than its competitors from Sony, Thinkpad, etc.
What do you guys suggest? I would love to hear more suggestions.
I want something in the range of
2.0+ GHZ core duo OR core 2 duo
1GB+ ram
80+ HDD
12-13 inch
any other suggestions would be very helpful.

Black Macbook is my personal favorite... but there are a few issues with it that I must warn you about. It tends to overheat a little bit more than other notebooks and is no good for gaming... but if you can live without gaming and can live with a little extra heat then the Macbook is a GREAT choice.

unless it's a mackbook pro, there is no comparison. They are both sleek and heck, they might both be made by asus. I don't know if the SZ is made by Asus, but the macbook is. IF u'r gonna buy the macbook for windows however, u might as well just get the SZ. Although u can use windows on a macbook, the macbook is still not made for windows, so there might be some issues. I havn't read much about using windows on the new intel macs, but I read some titles with the words problems, mac, and windows. =)

o yea... doesn't the macbook (non pro) have an integrated gma card? if so, the SZ is the clear winner as it has the nvidia 7400 and the GMA for extended battery life and video power on the go.

The sony would be better performing. For me, the OSX just doesn't suit me and I can't seem to get used to it.

my friend has a sony and under heavy load it doesn't get warm at all.
it is a 1.73 centrio pentium m not core duo but i would imaging they are using a good cooling system like the pentium m.
if apple doesn't make a bios update for vista(they might they might not ) then vista will NOT work. also sony comes with windows, where you have to fork over more money to get windows for the apple

yea it's all the same... i've read some things about slight shocking in the palmrest from the hd, but it's nothing major. Build quality is excellent on all models of the sz. I don't believe any of them have much plastics as far as the casing goes... I was gonna get the sz but i fell in love with the hgl30. It's not a looker, but for what it has it's a bargain. But if you don't need anything with good mobile graphics, then the SZ is hard to beat.
