Ideas for a desktop replacement?

Question:
Ideas for a desktop replacement?
My first post (and will be my first notebook). Thanks in advance for any helpand suggestions!
1) What is your budget? $2500 max - prefer closer to $2000, though
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
thoughts on this would be appreciated - I really want a desktop replacement, but if the screen is nice, could go with smaller
c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
d. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
internet, email, photo/video work, fairly heavy office work (presentations, publications and the like)
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
a little of both - I am not too concerned about weight (as long as it's <10#)
5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
yes, though this is a secondary use of the machine ;)
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
open to suggestions on this one
7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
3+ would be ideal, but certainly not a deal-breaker
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
no
9) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in?
Screen Specifics
10) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
wide screen
11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
Widescreen
e. WSXGA+ - 1680x1050; Wider viewing version of SXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
f. WUXGA - 1920x1200; Wider viewing version of UXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
either
Build Quality and Design
13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
not at all
14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
within the next week or so - I would ideally like it to last 2-3 years
Notebook Components
15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 160GB?
the bigger the better (always running out on my desktop)
16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive?
dvd-rw
Thanks again in advance. This site is great!

Re: Ideas for a desktop replacement?
for excellent build quality you could take a look at the hp nx9420 or the dell m90 and xps 1710. the sony ar is a nice looking notebook and supposedly as a very nice screen as well as the toshiba qosmio. the sager 5760 is also a nice notebook and will probably give you more bang for the buck. your cheapest options would be the dell e1705 or hp 9000t. the asus w2j is another option, but i am unsure if they have received the ones with the wsxga+ screens yet.
