Question:
7900 Gtx
Could someone please list popular laptops that have a 512MB videocard (7900 GTX) and Core 2 Duo in either a 17" or 15" screen? Also the laptop should have a C2D processor. I am only aware of the XPS M1710 fitting this bill. Thanks.

Re: 7900 Gtx
The Dell XPS M1710 is the only notebook I know of right now that is available with a 512MB Go7900GTX & Core 2 Duo.

If you wait, Sager will have their NP5760 gaming notebook, which is a better value & quality machine than the Dell in my opinion, available with the C2D in the coming month or so.

Re: 7900 Gtx
Thanks Chaz; I could pull the trigger on the E1705 today - but that only has a 256mb card in it and I wanted a graphics card that I dont have to upgrade for atleast 4 years, as I will keep my laptop for atleast that long. Could you recommend any comparable machines - Sony / HP or Acer? Something that has almost the exact specs as the E1705? Maxed out, The E1705 is coming to about $2400 with the 20% coupon + a 12% EPP discount that I get. I feel for that amount of money, I can get something better. Thanks.
p.s. my only issue with sager is that I don't know if they offer accidental damage for 3 or 4 yrs which is an absolute must for me.
pps. If I do buy the E1705, is there a possibilty of upgrading to a DX10 card in the future maybe a year or 2 down the line.

That could be a problem; Sager does not offer any sort of warranty like that - they have a 1-yr standard, while a 3-yr is extra.

I doubt that that will be possible.

I think the only other way you could pull off a 7900 (could even go dual 7900GS) is the alienware M9700...BUT...you would have to step down to the Turion processor. The other good thing is that alienware has been known to offer video options in the past. Prolly run you about 2400-2500 with dual 256's. I know it's not what you wanted exactly but it's another option. I would also feel like I could do better in your shoes in terms of the E1705.

Thanks for the input bigepilot, I mean - 4 years ago I got a 32MB Ati in my Dell C610 and 6 months later I couldnt play a single game or do anything graphic intensive. I don't want to get a 256 and then get screwed later on. Also I'm bugging out about DX 10. But my laptop is old and constantly dies on me so I feel like I'm running out of options. What would you recommend for the same price but better than E1705?

Re: 7900 Gtx
The Sager NP5750 offers a Go7800GTX 256MB (stronger than the Go7900GS at stock clocks) and a Core Duo in a 17" for around $1,500 (edit) USD - CA, probably $1,700 - $1,800:

Doesn't have a very high-resolution display (WXGA+) though, but very nice quality and design. Still the warranty problem though, but look at various dealers and see if any offer an accidental damage plan. Some do. The NP5750/NP5760 are actually rebadged Clevo M570U's, so if you see one of those, it's the same thing.

Nothing can compete at E1705 prices. It's the only boy in town for that kind of power in under $1500. Honestly, if I was in your shoes, I'd spend a little less now, and plan on upgrading in 2 years. DX10 will undoubtly become desierable by then, and whatever DX9 card you get today will not be enough for what you want to do then. The Dell XPS systems have decent resell value at the moment due to the sexy case and lights. I'd say strongly consider either the E1705 or the XPS M1710.

This is another option for you. I too was going to buy a SAGER NP5760 but opted to save about $1000 and got myself a more middle-ground gaming machine (in my signature) to get me past the new technologies coming up in the next year. That way, I can make that jump in a couple of years with a $1000 headstart.
But if you want the power now, I agree with Chaz's recommendation of the NP5760 and NP5750. I'm not 100% sure, but I think you can get ADP on the SAGER through some resellers if you need it.

Re: 7900 Gtx
I like the suggestion about getting a lower end laptop now and upgrading to a beast later - but what do you think of this E1705 (From my post in the Dell forum):
Also - I could get a E1505 with almost the same specs minus the lower nvidia card for about $1800 (Will this be good to play games for the next 2 years - Tiger Woods 2007, HL2, FEAR, NFS? Etc.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright - so for exactly - $2,310.36 inc. Taxes and Shipping - $150 Rebate = $2160.36, I can get the E1705 with the following Config. Is this a good deal or do you think I can get another make with similar specs for less? Or should I wait a few weeks for the price to come down a little more.
Also, for some reason Dell won't accept the "J2LPP883X25918" 20% off coupon, however - it says even before I entered the 20% off coupon that I am getting an instant 20% off Inspiron discount. I also get a further 12% off thanks to EPP (this can be combinbed with all home offers). The intial price it discounts everything off is $3090. Does this coupon thing seem right or should I recived an additional 20% off?
I would really appreciate your thoughts if I should pull the trigger? P.S. is 2 gigs of Ram at 667mhz too much for a casual gamer (FEAR, NFS, HL2). I do plan on keeping the computer for 4 years.
Thanks
