Question:
Dell 1710 vs HP dv9000t vs Alienware m9700
Hi boys and girls..
i am daniel from Peru, i am buying sa DELL 1710 with this configuration:
- XPS M1710, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7400 (2.16GHz/667MHz/4MB)
- 17 inch UltraSharp TrueLife Wide-screen WUXGA
- 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM 677MHZ,2 DIMM,
- 512MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GTX,
- 100GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
- Integrated 10/100/1000 NetworkCard and Modem for Inspiron
- 8X DVD+/-RW Drive
- Dell Wireless 1500,Minicard,USFor Inspiron
- Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Module (2.0 + EDR),for Inspiron 640M
and.. i think that is on BUILDING process.. :) :D
but.. yesterday i notice that HP show up the model.. HP dv9000t that is:
- Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.0 GHz)
- 17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050)
- 512MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600
- 2.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024MB)
- 100 GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
and at the same time. alienware :( shows up the version of ALIENWARE m9700 with 1GB SLI GPU.. but its AMD (and i guess that is not dual core coz, the model for dualcore of AMD says X2 and this not), configuration is:
- AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile ML40 2.2GHz
- 17" WideUXGA 1920 x 1200
- 2GB Dual Channel DDR SO-DIMM at 400MHz
- 100GB Serial ATA 1.5Gb/s 7,200 RPM
- Dual 512MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS - SLI Enabled
you realize we are not talking about ordinary system.. so i really would like to know what do you think between this configurations and about pros and cons..
realize that.. DELL comes with 7900 GTX, HP with 7600 and.. the alienware comes with TWO 7900 GS on GPU configuration..
thanks for your time..
i asking.. this things cause from Peru (southamerica) maybe i couldnt know about details (such customer service about any brand, or what do you think about processors and GPU's?) and insights you could give me
thank you a lot
regards from Peru.
daniel.

Re: Dell 1710 vs HP dv9000t vs Alienware m9700
Here you go.
I would go with the Dell. Apparentl alienware has customer service issues, and the 7900 gtx should be about as strong as 2 x 7900 gs's, at least in the ballpark.
the 7900 gs's advantage is its lower power consumption, but for a huge notebook you probably wont care.
The HP's geforce 7600 is a step down from the alienware and dell, but its probably thinner too.

Re: Dell 1710 vs HP dv9000t vs Alienware m9700
I wouldn't buy the Alienware; it only has a single-core Turion processor, which is well behind the Intel Core (2) Duo in terms of overall performance.
The Dell looks like your best bet for gaming. The Go7900GTX is a few times faster than the Go7600, and even that is a very powerful card. If you are looking for an alternative, consider the Clevo M570U. It's a 17" machine with a Go7900GTX 512MB. I don't know where you can find it, so that may be a problem.

chaz..
you you are right.. single-core.. doesnt mean.. to be good investment..
i am buying this notebook for work in design and video editing.. i mean photoshop, illustrator, indesing, flash 3dmax. blender combustion, premiere, and that stuf.. so maybe gamming will be a second option.
about clevo. you are right.. a friend of me. in states is buying the notebook and will come to Peru with it.. so i think that dell is a good option.. but i want to be sure about your opinions.
maybe in future when 64 bits come an standar.. could we think on an AMD proccesor..

The Core 2 Duo is 64bit...

Re: Dell 1710 vs HP dv9000t vs Alienware m9700
The Core 2 Duo is 64-bit, and so is AMD's Turion 64 X2. I wouldn't really put much thought into 64-bit. But, a dual-core processor is well worth investing in. Most notebooks come with them these days.
Edit: MGS2392 beat me.

Re: Dell 1710 vs HP dv9000t vs Alienware m9700
really?. MGS2392 its 64 bits? so when the.. vista comes out i can run it smoothly?.. i though that only AMD has 64 bits.. processors.. the Turio 64 X2 its dual-core.. processor.. (in the HP model and i though better be aware of future buying 64-dual-core processor :D).. but as Chaz says.. better dual-core from intel.. i heard that intel's are more faster.. but not sure.
so you guys for the work i will give to the notebooks XPS is a good option do you think between the other models?
