Question:
Dell E1505 outdated or not? Need advice thanks!
I'm looking for a blend of power and mobility (and price) and after much research, it seems to me that the dell is the way to go. I have the specs configured online as follows: core duo 1.83 ghz, 2gb 533 ram, 80 gb 7200 hd, 256mb x1400 ati, and some other extras including 2 yr warranty. So this config comes out to $1674, which seems pretty reasonable. The only thing is, it seems like the x1400 is pretty outdated, so is it actually worth it to buy this machine? I was also thinking about the hp dv1000t for mobility and price reasons, but i'm leaning toward the dell because the dell at least has a dedicated gpu. I'm not a hardcore gamer, but i would like to have the option of being able to play something like BF2 occasionally. I read in the sticky that the x1400 can handle bf2 at medium settings. Can anyone elaborate more? Whats the fps like at medium? at what resolution? how well do you think the system i have configured will run bf2? Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry i can't answer any of your questions, but if you are not married to dell, i would suggest you take a look at the asus s96j available at geared2play.com or powernotebooks.com. For the same specs as you bought the dell, it will come with the 256mb x1600 gpu and 3 year warranty ( if bought as the powerpro A 2:24 from powernotebooks) and will come at about just over $1400. If not, take a look at the dell coupons section and it should bring your price down a couple hundred dollars.

Welcome to the forums; if you could complete the FAQ for us, that would be great.
$1674 is a lot of money to spend on an E1505, you can get a better laptop for the price with a much better video card.

yah you probably could, but the only thing that is realy out dated on the computer is the graphics card. the ram is still pretty good, processor etc.
in other words its not State-of-the-Art, but still pretty good

If your going to buy that computer, use the dell coupons, and go with the standard amount of ram, then upgrade it yourself, it is really easy. But for a bout 1700 I would go with a different comp, if you want to see other options it would be nice if you complete the faq, then we can offer you more options that would suite your needs better. I wouldnt consider the X1400 outdated, but rather not as powerful as others. I believe it was released less then 6 months ago replacing the x600. The rest of the system is very up to date with all its features. With the Dell Coupons, the laptop is an amazing deal and cant be beat. However, for the price, you could find a nice Asus. I would rather spend 2000 and subtract 750 and get a tricked out dell over an average Asus.

Well, you can't really get a "tricked-out" computer if your video card is lagging. The x1400 is about half the card the x1600 (found in s96j, w3j) or the 7600 (found in a8jm) are. The good thing about dell is, though, you can get that 4 year+accidental damage warranty for relatively cheap. So the options are (1) faster computer (for gaming) with something else or (2) longer warranty with the dell.
