i am not looking to play games or work with heavy 3d programs.
weight and durability/built quality are very important. so is battery life.
no "budget" ram or cpu since i want to have powerfull multi tasking capability.
screen does not matter, anything above 10" works.

Your options are pretty wide open, and since your budget is only 1000, you could look at Dell. The Inspiron's e1405, 1505, and 1705 will give you the most bang for your buck. Custimazation wil be up to you, but with the 20% off coupon, you can easily get what you need.

asus, sony, apple none of which will be in your 1000 price range... for that tight of a budget you are going to have to work with 14" laptops, i'd think about a barebones if i were you, check out rjtech.com and agearnotebooks.com. use the latter to find models, but buying from there is going to be a bit pricey, and search other sites like geared2play.com, gentechpc.com, milestonepc.com, and rjtech.com to find the cheapest best one with integrated graphics. if battery life is a concern don't get amd procs such as turion or turion x2's stick with core duos and core 2 duos... they have better battery life and better performance
