Question:
Gaming 14" notebook - Asus?
Hi
I am planning to buy a new notebook thats going to last for me for the whole 4 years of the university.
It surely must be fast. I have decided for Core 2 Duo and 1 gig of ram and some mainstream video card (eg. 7600). I also really care about low weight of the laptop and large battery.
So far I found only one notebook that fulfils my needs. Its Asus A8Jm (battery is a little bit to small thou), but it costs as much as 1900 bucks in Canada so it is a little bit to expensive.
Can you recommend me any other laptop which wouldnt be so pricey?

well, there is the compal hgl-30 that will be a little cheaper if you configure with low specs. however, i am unsure of the availability in canada. you would probably have to import from the u.s. which will probably make it just as expensive.

Well, I'm not too sure if you can get those specs in Canada ore really anywhere else, though the Asus A8Ja is considerably cheaper than the A8Jm, though it's got Core Duo 1.66ghz, 80GB HDD and Mobility X1600. Also, when the A8Js hits canada it'll be priced WAY more than the A8Jm. Finally, I've been seaching for an old friend in Canada and I've seen compal adapters and batteries in an online superstore, though I've yet to see a notebook. Good luck on your search.

powernotebooks already has the Compal HGL-30 with the Merom (core 2 duo) cpu as an option, maybe you should call them to see if they will ship to canada. Milestonepc carries Compal, but I dont know if they carry the HGL30, you can try calling them as well.
