Question:
Compaq vs Dell
I started another thread comparing the compaq vd6000t and the dell 1300. It is pretty clear that the compaq has a better reputation... but my wife is paying for these machines and is asking me why the compaq is better than the dell.
I dont know.
She sees the cute commercials with the weed-smoking kid and likes Dell.
I dont like that kid, dont like Dell.
Can someone explain to me what the differences are, in general, between the two brands? I mean, beyond that it looks nicer. Are there any real stats in regard to lifespan or performance?

dell is way better than compaq, i fix comps for a living, always see compaqs coming in, not so much now that hp bought them over, but dell i rarely see. of course they have some minor problems or complete defects, but honestly, they dont seem that bad compared to mother defects from compaq. and dells customer service is better than most companies and as long ur under warranty, u can preety much get a new comp is something happens to urs, dell or compaq, dell anyday, hp another matter although some models of hp are same as compaqs

well the dv6000t is not Compaq it's HP. I know this may sound confusing because they are one in the same, however I find that the HP machines are much better than the lower of the line Compaqs. I would choose the HP, Dells have horrible screens, battery problems on occasion, and they break a lot. Dell service is crap unless you pay extra for it. HP has a 1 year warranty which will pay to have the laptop picked up, fixed and shipped back if it breaks in the 1 year period.

Similar models of HP and Compaq uses the exact same hardware, so i dunno how HP machines are much better than Compaq. For now i'll pick the compaq over the dell because of dell's battery problems.
