Question:
DELL E1505 Questions
After looking at a lot of notebooks, I settled on the DELL E1505. The Asus
S96J was just too expensive. I looked at the Cyberpower version, but the reviews were unanimously against the comnpany for its cheap quality.
1. What is the major difference between True Life and UltraSharp True Life? If you change the resolution on the UltraSharp to 1024x768 is there any advantage in having UltraSharp?
2. Is the ATI Radeon x1400 upgradeable?
3.How long can this machine last? I want it to last at least until FALL 2009
If anyone can find me a cheap ASUS S96J with 1024Ram, wireless, DVDRW, XP Home. My budget is 1400. I already tried powernotebooks.com. Anyhing else I should know? I'm not a serious gamer- AOE 3 maybe a few more games. Most of my gaming needs are fulfilled by the PS2!

Re: DELL E1505 Questions
LCDs do not look good at a non-native resolution. TruLife is glossy, Ultrasharp is not.
GPU is not upgradeable, most are not.
Depends in some part how well you take care of it and some luck of the draw.

Re: DELL E1505 Questions
For the S96J, try GenTech PC and try to get the Windows from a MS employee. At GenTech, the S96J with 1024MB x 1, Core Duo T2400, Intel Wireless, DVD-RW, and 80GB 5400RPM hdd is $1187, plus 95 for the Windows. So its in your price range. I think that the S96J in PowerNotebooks should be in your price range as well, but GenTech is cheaper.
For the E1505:
1. Not sure, but TruLife is the glossy screen, and Ultra Sharp probably just means an increased screen res. Do NOT run a 1024x768 res on a widescren monitor, that would be kinda messed up.
2. No. You will be stuck with it.
3. The hardware will be outdated within a year and a half (once Santa Rosa comes), if you upgrade to the Merom CPU. The laptop will last till Fall 09, but then, it wont run many games by that point.

1. An LCD will look blurry out of its native resolution no matter what as has been posted.
2. Already answered.
3. It can last if you take care of it . . you won't be outdated for a while. As long as you have a dual-core processor and a decent amount of memory (1GB+) then you'll be good for a few years.
