Do I need express card support?
HP nc8430 looks like a good choice to me, except it doesn't have a express card slot. I want to keep my laptop for at least 4 years. Is express card support necessary for me?

Probably not. There are plenty of other expansion ports, USB, firewire, bluetooth and wifi are all other ways to connect. Sure it's nice to have the extra ports but if it fits your demands you likely will be happy with the HP.
