HP's Core 2 Duo delays

Question:
HP's Core 2 Duo delays
I ordered a C2D nw9440 that was due to be delivered on the 11th, which was then backordered until the 28th. Today I was notified that delivery was just pushed back to the 14th of October.
Is this par for the course with HP? Is there a Merom shortage? I might just order a Dell if this keeps happening.

no...i got mine in a week...maybe that changed but i don't think so
Answer:
Re: HP's Core 2 Duo delays
Could the delay be because of the pre-configured deal that I purchased?
Answer:
Re: HP's Core 2 Duo delays
somehow i think that would be the one reason it WOULD come sooner rather than later. my was preconfigured, but I added another 1GB RAM chip purchased through HP as well.

That's what I thought as well.

Re: HP's Core 2 Duo delays
I hope mine doesn't take till mid-october; they just told me there'd be a delay, they haven't given a new shipping date yet.
I don't know how long I can hold out dealing with the quirkiness of my XPS. It recently decided that it was too-cool for COM ports, virtual or otherwise, and so I can't connect anything Bluetooth and also that it doesnt feel the need to map any USB storage device (except for my Axim PDA).
My friends and I have decided it's a clear case of jealously. My nc8430 will be thinner, have like quadruple the battery life, twice the video memory (and two generations improved graphics chipset), 2x processor performance (I do SuperPi to 2M in the low to mid 2min range right now), and is better built, better supported (I hope) and cost about 2/3 as much as the XPS did.
(Yes, I did recently re-install windows after reformating my OS partition).

Not to mention the fact that I think my Mic input channel has always been broken on this thing, it doesn't always shut down or boot up on the first try (I think something's off with the PCMCIA and/or IEEE1394) controller and the fact that something is screwy enough that I can never reliably run anything other that stock Dell (rediculously out of date, now) ATI drivers.
Can you tell I'm ready for a new laptop?
The XPS can turn into a web and media server when I get my nc8430 all set up.
Edit: Maybe if I'm "lucky" I can get HP to throw in an upgraed to an x1700 while they're waiting for my Core2
