I'm looking for something to replace my dead laptop. Preferably Core 2 Duo 2GHz, casual gaming, but more importantly lots of screen real estate for Photoshop and spreadsheets. Portability not as important, but wouldn't mind being able to take to class, etc...

You might also consider the HEL80 from someone like www.powernotebooks.com It has up to a 1680x1050 resolution LCD I believe.

The HP nx7400 is available with a WSXGA+ screen, but it won't run current-gen games well, as it has integrated graphics. I'd recommend the Compal, can't beat that price/performance ratio.

The Compal HEL80 isn't a mainstream machine, but you won't find anything like it from one of the big companies. You'll get better service than you will get from Dell, HP, etc through a good dealer.

The Compal HEL80 is an excellent suggestion for your needs. You may also like the Asus Z96J or the HP nc8430 (a little more expensive though).
