Cheap but upgradable

Question:
Cheap but upgradable
I'll have $600.00 even in the morning.Seeking a decent but cheap lappy. To replace my eMachines W3107.Which,I'am giving to my daugther this sunday.
What,I'am trying to do is buy a lappy with capibilities of me adding a vid card and bigger hdd for a little gaming. This will be replacing my desktop. So,weight isn't a factor.I won't be carrying it around at all.
I plan to buy tomorrow.
Thanks,Clint

Re: Cheap but upgradable
For a budget of US$600, I don't think you can get a laptop with anything other than intergrated video. And unfortunately laptops are not even remotely approaching the expandability of desktops yet, so, the ability to add a better video card to them later on, while not impossible, only exists on middle-mainstream/higher end machines which have a dedicated video chipset to begin with.
The logic behind this is simple, if the notebook has dedicated graphics onboard, there won't be a need to add an external graphics interface (to save space and costs), thus, no MXM (nVidia standard), Axiom (ATI standard), or 3rd party connection interface for an upgrade.

Yea with $600 you cannot get any of the things you want. Integrated is your only option. You might be able to do something for $800.

what i would honestly suggest? save that 600 and pull it together... then get some more money and buy a 17" barebones with the chassis and the graphics card built in and optical drive... wireless can be added later, bluetooth can be added later...

Re: Cheap but upgradable
Or get an E1505 with the x1400.
Answer: get it without the cpu ram hd and wireless... so for 600-800 you can get a decent powerhouse gaming 17". it won't run yet... but this is what you havta do... piece by piece... for those with tight budget... once you have some money you start buying the cheapest parts for the notebook... cheapest as in the cheaper category not the cheapest parts... like first comes cheapest stick of ram you can find just to start your system running like a 256 or a 512? for **** cheap... since you can always add a 1gb stick later on... then you need the HD and cpu since both are equally important...
and in this manner you can slowly and steadily buy a nice decent 17" powerful but economical laptop... and i believe the op asked for a 17" so e1505 is out... but if he is willing to buy e1505 buy it just with a x1400 and optical drive... everything else can be added in later... especially the "$50 intel 3945 abg wireless" for around 25 bucks...

Re: Cheap but upgradable
He didnt say anything about screen size. I checked and you can get a E1505 with the X1400 for $738 but thats with everything else on the lowest configuration. If you used coupons, you will still have to pay $900+.
He said he wants to buy tommorow so I dont think he would want to build his system which will take a while.

oh jtom you are right... he said "desktop replacement" which i equated as 17" my mistake but yeah the e1505 is cheap... but not to despair as there are deals where for around 750+ tx = 800 you can get a pretty loaded e1505...
