Question:
help me with my first notebook pc, please...
Hi, I'm looking to buy my first notebook pc. Will probably buy one in about a month from now. I'm looking for one to use at college. So I'll be doing research, note-taking , writing term papers, etc.
12-13" screen size
not sure yet if I want glossy or not
will take it with me to/from class & apartment and other places some.
I won't be playing games on it much, I don't need 3D graphics.
I'm not yet sure if I want standard or Widescreen. I think standard is ok.
I don't need any business features.
My budget will be about $1500. or less.
*I'm interested in the following brands: IBM Thinkpad, Toshiba, maybe HP (?)
So, if you have any thoughts on these brands, regarding quality, portability, etc., please let me know. Thanks, Greg

My recommendation is to go for an IBM Thinkpad. They are well known for outstanding quality and reliability. Check out the new x60 which is really hot. Widescreen is definitely the future though so consider that as well, new tv shows are being released in wide and it's generally more useful for office work too.

ThinkPad Z61t seems right up your alley. It is light, well built, good support, excellent keyboard, etc.

Thanks for your comments. This is gonna sound funny but how do I go about purchasing one? I notice most stores like Staples, Best Buy, etc. don't seem to carry IBM brand pc's. Why, I don't know. Do I have to purchase directly through the IBM company (website)? Thanks, Greg

Ok, I just checked out the website for IBM/Lenovo. I found purchasing options which will work for me.
I think I'm gonna go for the IBM Thinkpad X60 (aka, Lenovo 3000 V100 0763).
It has 512 MB memory, Core Duo, 1.66 ghz processor, 12.1", Vibrant View Screen, and I think it is a wide-screen, & weighs 4 lbs. Sounds perfect for my needs. Thanks, Greg

The x60 and V100 are not the same machine.
