Re: DIfference B/W Centrino Duo and Core Duo
It's a good thing you asked because Intel feeds off of people similar to yourself lost in that confusing state. The answer is there is no speed difference at all!
If you have a Core Duo 2.0 ghz and a Centrino Duo 2.0 ghz assuming the Centrino Duo has the Core Duo chip and not the Core 2 Duo as they are both now labled the same to confuse everyone even more. The only difference with the Centrino system is that you have 3 of 3 things;
1.) An Intel Core Duo or Core 2 Duo Processor,
2.) An Intel Series Chipset to match the processor,
3.) An Intel Wireless Card.
Thats it, so if it's just Core Duo or Core 2 Duo then it is missing 1 or 2 of the 3 either the Intel Pro wireless card, or has a non-Intel chipset.
As far as speed goes the Core 2 Duo is slightly faster than the Core Duo and it uses less power, aswell as the fact that it has 64 bit support and Core Duo doesn't. The Core Duo is 2 non-native cores on a chip, where as the Core 2 Duo is 2 native cores. They both have 2 cores. Basically the Core 2 Duo is the (2)nd generation of the Core Duo.
btw: neither the Core Duo or Core 2 Duo have 4 cores, they both have 2.

I thought the with new Core 2 duo only Intel chip can handle WIFI, I am wrong there ? so if you have Wifi it mean it is for sure Intel.

Yep your wrong, if you have a Centrino then it's an Intel wireless card, if you have a Core 2 Duo it's Intel or most likely Broadcom.

Core 2 DUo is faster as it names indicate you have 4 core (proc) working differnece of pref is of about 10-12% i think Just to clear up any confusion, the Core 2 Duo's name does not imply what you think it does. It doesn't have 4 cores. It is still just a dual-core chip (this is true of the desktop and mobile versions of the Core 2 Duo). The "2" in the name refers to it being the successor to the original Core Duo chip.
You can of course be forgiven for the confusion; I have to say, Core 2 Duo seems like one of Intel's more confusing and bewildering naming conventions, even moreso than when they kept using the Pentium name and adding II, III, IV, M, D, etc. to it long past the time where the original "Pentium" name had any meaning.
