Acer Vs Dell
Im looking to get a laptop under $1300 and I've narrowed it down to the Acer 5672 and the Dell Inspiron 6400. Which one is a better choice?

I have the 6400 no problems. Uncle has an acer a lot of problems with practically tech support stinks. But remember this is our opinion. Other people have good where other people have bad

Choose what is better for your needs. The Acer 5672 is clearly (with the X1600) a high-performance gaming machine, but with fairly poor battery life, and a below-average screen. The Dell is better balanced with its optional X1400, and has good battery life and LCD but the compromise is the significantly lower graphics performance. The Dell is also $300-400 cheaper depending on config. For most users I think the Dell would be a better buy.

Not to confuse your decision futher, but the Acer Aspire 5112 WLMi is pretty nice too for $1299 CDN at Futureshop. I have a review coming. It has 2 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, ATI X1600 and Turion X2.

I believe the x1600 in the acer is constrained by acer and does not produce the performance of a regular x1600. I believe its basically a very low end X1600.

Yes, in the 5112 it is an X1600 with 64 bit memory so the performance is half what a regular X1600 would be - but that is also true of the X1600 in the 5672.
50% of an X1600 is still faster than 100% of an X1400.

they are both problematic computers in my opinion, the acer has heat issues, the dell is an inspiron... inspirons have a ton of issues... hopefully you are lucky and don't see any. read the reviews of each laptop on this website and you will see what i mean. i would consider looking at an asus s96j/z96j for the 15.4" range... much much more viable options and have a reseller set it up for you if you don't want to do it yourself, and ask for a discount... definitely should bring price under 1300...

I have always used dell so I am biases towards its. So my vote goes to dell

Both should have similar quality, but the Acer's GPU, underclocked or not, is still much more powerful than the X1400 in the E1505.

I just purchased an acer aspire 5112. I ran the ati tool, I don't know how accurate it is on a mobility gpu, and it was showing 4 pipelines which it should have 12 and only was running a 64 bit bus. I believe the clock speeds were 350 and 425. On the ati web site they are advertising the X1600 with 128 bit bus and 12 pipelines. I don't whats up with that but thats enough for me to bring it back. The 8 pipeline decrease and the decrease in bus speed really takes hit to gaming. Has anyone else experienced a lag in gaming?
