Question:
High Quality Graphic Design Notebook?
I am considering the Mac Book Pro, Asus V6J, and Compal HEL80. However, weight, construction, speed, graphics, battery-life and quality are the most important aspects to me. I purchased the Asus F3Jm, however, I feel this notebook does not have the qualities I need due to the 1280x800 WXGA resolution, two hour battery life, and speed. I would like to stick to running a Windows-based machine and have been hesitant to go to Mac unless I can natively run PC based programs on it. Chaz previously recommended the Dell Latitude D620 to me, however, I have always been hesitant to go back to Dell due to their quality control. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

With your price range, I'd say that the 7900GS or the X1600 are good graphics cards for you.

Dell Latitude D620 is a good suggestion, and as for Dell, the Latitude series belongs to their line of business notebooks and will receive better support.
A Macbook Pro is also a good alternative... though it *starts* from $2000. With Boot Camp, you may load Windows and many Windows programs.

The problem with the macbook pro is that the X1600 graphics card scores only around a 2800 on windows, when the X1600 should normally be around 4000 to 4500.

Since you want a standard screen, I recommend the ThinkPad T60. Great matte screen, solid construction.

photoshop can use the avivo instructions in the dx 9 cards to change the format of its files. So yes it uses the gpu. Im not sure it makes a big difference.
the asus a8js has a 1440 x 900 14 inch screen, worth looking at at least.
doesnt make it to 3 hours in battery, glossy screen.
