Hello,
A friend of mine wants to buy a laptop and seen as i got such good advice off here when i bought mine i thought i would post again. Here is the list;
General Questions
1) What is your budget?
£800 (althought could go a bit over if worth it)
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
d. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Dvd's, Music, Work, Not gaming (she has a small child that mite want to
play something but not high end games).
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
Desk, the idea is that its a replacement for a desktop, portablility is not an
issue
5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
As above, not the latest games, maybe some young child games
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
Not fussed, i like my zepto one, but really not bothered.
7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
Again, minimal as protability isn't something we are after.
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
Nope.
9) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in?
In the UK.
Screen Specifics
10) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
Widescreen
11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
Any of the widescreen formats, i think its gonna want to be a multimedia
laptop.
12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
No preference.
Build Quality and Design
13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
Its always better if it looks sexeh.
14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
Asap, and as long as possible for the money. She understands about the
laptop being out dated quite fast.
Notebook Components
15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 160GB?
80GB+
16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive?
DVD-RW
So there we go, i have had troubleing finding anything that could be considered a desktop replacement. Thanks in advance, and any ideas are welcome.

Well the moment i hear UK dtr i think of this:

Excellent value for money but the x1800 maybe a bit overfill for ur needs.
Check out dell though and config it with a x1400.

why dont you look over to hp maybe the dv9000 or the dell inspiron e1705
best of luck choosing your perfect notebook you can just go over to the sites and try configuring your own system you might get an idea of what price range you could acquire your dream notebook or your friends for that matter

you could also check out toshiba p100/p105 if you can find it in your neck of the woods.
