Go for the HP over the Dell value line for sure. The dv2000t should be plenty fast and fit your needs fine at around $550.

the HP dv2000t has a glossy screen, but I think you're still better off with it. If you haven't seen the HP, go into best buy, circuit city or somewhere and take a look at it. I did that last week.

heh, my bad. I guess I didn't even notice the non-glossy option when configuring it because of the free upgrade .. and the fact that I like the glossy.

you might be able to find the nx6325 with the sempron for that price. it will have very good durability and a matte screen. it is around $600 with a $100 rebate.
