Re: $650 laptop
Seeing as you're not going to be doing anything really taxing, I'll second the vote for the Compaq V3000. It's a great little laptop, if you ask me--nice specs for the price.

Re: $650 laptop
I'm pretty sure thats the laptop i'm going with. not sure exactly what I'm going to do though. I can get an education discount being a student, which will save me about $50, but I don't have a credit card. I usually use my dad's then pay him back. I have a debit card, but i has a $250/day limit.

Re: $650 laptop
Does the compaq have that glossy imprint design that the new hp's have?
Answer:
Re: $650 laptop
The imprint finish is optional on the Compaq V3000, and HP currently charges an extra $38 for it; that option also comes with a microphone and QuickPlay. I would say it is worth it because it gives the laptop a very nice look.
The Compaq V3000Z is a shart choice for your needs.

Re: $650 laptop
The Imprint Finish also is scratch resistant. Mine does not have a mark on it after three months. Its a fingerprint magnet, but those are easily wiped away.
