Compaq V3000Z (V3010CA in Canada)... Extended Warranty?

Question:
Compaq V3000Z (V3010CA in Canada)... Extended Warranty?
I've been thinking of buying a notebook for a while now and came accross a good deal on the Compaq AMD X2-based V3000Z/V3010CA. Anyway, it is a consumer oriented notebook so it only comes with a one year... which worries me a little given the cost of repairs on notebooks. I'm curious to know what peoples thoughts are re: extended warranties? Especially since HP/Compaq extended warranties are quite expensive. I would be purchasing this on VISA tho, so a 1-year warranty extension would supposedly be in effect on this purchase.
Thanks.

2 yrs of total warranty is fine. Unless you are planning on putting the notebook to extreme use (a lot of outdoor, always carry around etc). If you are somewhat familiar with how notebooks/computers work, you should be able to diagnose and fix the problem yourself unless it's a hardware failure, but that's rare.

Yeah, I work with computers daily - desktop management team lead of >1200 workstations. We have very few notebooks/tablets tho and i've never owned one personally. I did buy a Dell recently as a gift and sprung for the 3-year depot warranty because it was relatively cheap @ $130CDN. The HP/Compaq 3-year warranty is $319CDN.
As for intended use - strictly personal. A bit of photoshop/digital imaging when out of the house, wireless around the house or when visiting friends/family/coffee shops, etc. Nothing hardcore. I just don't want to be tied to my desk when I want to use the computer. I won't rely on it to put food on the table or anything and I tend to care for my belongings, especially electronics.
I actually didn't think about the extended warranties on VISA purchases until I read another thread on here today... 3-years would be nice, but 2-years is probably sufficient for peace of mind. If I have to replace the HDD or memory after that then so be it. It's the display/motherboard that are the main concern.
I'm going to go sit in a corner now and try to justify the purchase. ;)
