1) What is your budget?

2) What size notebook would you prefer?
a. Ultraportable; 12" screen or less OR
b. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen OR
c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
HL2/CS:S. World of Warcraft. Word processing and school work.
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
Taking it with me
5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
As above on decent graphics :) Oh, and probably Oblivion (on lowest settings if need be)
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
I do like Dells...
7) How many hours of battery life do you need?

8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?

i dont know if they ship to australia but i found this on powernotebooks, it is slightly above your budget but its good value. Crown R 15:4.

my only concern would be the only ram is 512 although you could probably live with that.

You can get the Dell Inspiron 6400UMA from Dell's australia website. It's going to $50 more than your budget if you configure it with X1400. It has the core duo processor and it should be perfect for you.

PowerNotebooks doesn't ship to Australia.
I also think the Dell E1505 (aka 6400) is a good machine for the money. Considering that $1500AUD is ~$1,121, you're not going to have many options. Another machine you can look into is the HP dv5000t, but that's probably going to be more expensive than the Dell if it is available.

Yeah,the hp dv5100 advertised on HP's website is around $3000. Way out of your budget.

you should also check the acer models available, specifically the acer 5672. just so you know, the x1400 will struggle with oblivion.

The Inspiron 6400UMA with the X1400XT seems probably the best for what I want. Good price too :)
Any others you would suggest I look at?
