Answer:
Ahhh, AU dollars, that makes more sense. Do you care about weight, batery life, optical drive options or Bluetooth?

Answer:
You need to decide on the class of notebook. Should it be a desktop replacement (big, > 7.5 lb) a machine that is both portable but powerful (thin and light that weighs 4.5lb - 7lb) or an extremely mobile sub-notebook that weighs under 4.5 lb.
Narrow down what class of notebook you want first, THEN we can start talking exact models.
Answer:
Dont care about weight so much!
I want it to have optical drives. I want it to have grunt.

With those specs, you should be able to handle virtually any computing task you throw at it, including some pretty hardcore gaming! As for value, I don't know what 3300 AU means. Enlighten me in US Dollars please.[:p]

Did some checking around, and I think I might have found what you're looking for.

These are some of HP/Compaqs business class notebooks (This is also their Australian division of their site). The nc6000 seems to pretty much match up with the specs you presented, but there's always the option to go bigger if you can. My friend at university has one of the nc4000, and he loves it (and I'm fairly impressed by it as well). Hopefully this will help you in deciding what you want to get. I assume you'd have to call one of their suppliers in Australia to order it, but I could be wrong. Best of luck.
