General Questions
1) What is your budget? - 1500-2400 would prefer to stay under 2000
2) What size notebook would you prefer? - 15-17"
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook? - Programming, 3D Design, Gaming
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk? - Portability doesnt really matter as im 6'5" and over 200lbs so anything is portable to me
5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games? - Playing alot of games and going to college with game dev major next year
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? - dont care
7) How many hours of battery life do you need? at least 2 would be nice but i should have an outlet most places i go
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person? - online is fine
9) What country are you buying this in? - USA
Screen Specifics
10) Would you prefer standard or widescreen? - doesnt matter
11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer? - At least sxga but i will have a external lcd for desk use
12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? - I like both
Build Quality and Design
13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? - not really
14) How long do you want this laptop to last? - at least 2 years
Notebook Components
15) How much hard drive space do you want; at least 60gb, 7200rpm would be nice too
16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive? - CDRW min
I have looked at acer 8204, alienware area51 m7700, and the nicer sagers and not really sure what would be best. financing would be nice to but is not required.

I'll be using mine for pretty much the same as you. I just ordered a sager NP5760... very high quality and future-proof design so that it will last me several years with high performance.

The asus a6ja is a pretty good all round mainstream notebook- with a dual core 1.83 and ati x1600. And it being an asus the quality will be top notch.

i like the sager 5760 but its a bit much for me to buy w/o financing. i really need it soon so i cant wait till i have enough lol. im looking at the dell e1705 because its avalible with the 7900gs and i may be able to get a discount and financing through my dads work.

I customized the Dell e1705 for 1761 with the possibility of another 12% of with 2ghz core duo, 2gb ddr2 ram, 100gb 7200rpm hdd, nVidia 7900gs 256mb, and the ultra sharp uxga screen. Think i will find a better deal anywhere or should i go with this?

i just ordered this from dell (it seems they went up on the speed friday)

Core Duo, the 64 it is sort of a novelty at the moment. Until they release some main stream 64 bit core duo stuff I would stick with core duo instead of the 64 bit.
