Re: Games capable but not too expensive!
Hi,
for around £600 i think you would have to go with acer. If your main option is to play games id go with one with a x700/x1400/go 7400 minimum. I know acer do some.
check out http://www.shopacer.co.uk for prices and specification.
However if you want a long lasting notebook, id go with a slightly more durable brand, such as asus, but u will have to pay a bt more for the same spec - check out the A6J range - they have the go7300 which will be able to play all teh games you have mentioned above.
for your price range your best bet is acer.

you may also want to see what fujitsu-siemens has to offer. you could also get a low speced zepto notebook:

this will give you the best gaming performance. i would upgrade to a core duo, and then upgrade ram and hd as you go along and have more money.

I think the ASUS A6VM is best:
PM 1.7 GHZ
512 MB RAM
go7300 256mb - dedicated graphics is a definte plus
extras - wireless, bluetooth, webcam/mic, 2years insurance
all for £597!

Re: Games capable but not too expensive!
Hey radditz that Asus looks great, thanks! I'm seriously considering it!
The budget may stretch up as far as £750. At the moment all I can really find is the Acer 5672WLMi coming in at £725. It has Core Duo, an X1400 with hypermemory, a gig of ram and all the usual suspects.
As I'll be gaming on the new machine I'd prefer a single core cpu. Can anyone recommend a laptop with an X1400 or geforce go 7400 or better, single core cpu and 1gb of ram for under £750? It's a combination I simply can't find as so many manufacturers seem to be obsessed with dual cores!
Thanks

Are you sure that is the right link? That notebook is oudated, but shouldn't be a hinderance to what you are doing.
