Re: Asus W3J vs. Toshiba A100-SK9
Hi Info Mouse,
I was in the same situation a couple days ago. I narrowed my search down to the same laptops you are considering! I needed a good quality non integrated video card laptop for going to and from work and traveling.
In the end I bought the Toshiba a100-sk9 for several reasons:
1. It was important to me to have the Nvidia 7600 card for the work I do because the drivers for open GL are much more versatile then Ati's for professional work. Also I am a very happy nvidia customer ever since Riva TnT :) Love ATI though, great cards too..drivers need some improvment.
2. The Toshiba has the 2500 Duo instead of the 2400 which is not much but it's a little better.
3. Toshiba is expandable to 4Gigs of ram asus was 2gigs and the toshiba had a 120 gig hard drive to asus 100g.
4.After looking at the asus at the store it was a great laptop but I just thought that the toshiba was the better deal since I could easily add the two things the asus had that the toshiba didn't, Blue tooth and XP Pro.
5. The toshiba was 200 bucks less.
Any who, those were some of my thoughts behind my decision, hope that helps, either way they are both good laptops and either or wouldn't be a bad choice in my opinion.

Toshiba

The Toshiba is available in Canada only, so it's tough finding info about it.

I'd vote for the Asus with the modular battery for the extra time you need. On a 14" notebook WXGA+ is as big as you'll get.
