Casual Notebook, simple design, +/-$700

Question:
Casual Notebook, simple design, +/-$700
Hello,
1) What is your budget?
  • Around $700.00

2) What size notebook would you prefer?
  • b. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
  • c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen

3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
  • Light photoshop, browsing

4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
  • Yes.

5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
  • No

6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
  • No

7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
  • 5-7 Hours would be enough

8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
  • I'd perfer to buy it online ;)

9) What country are you buying this in?
  • USA, but will be used mostly in Israel

10) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
  • Don't care.

12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
  • Yes, I'd like it to be simple, casual, solid feeling if you know what I mean, like those old IBM's with the 3 letters in red blue and green.

14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 120GB?
  • 40 GB is enough

16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive?
  • Floppy would be nice and CD/DVD drive, Yes.

This laptop is for an older person, who is somewhat computer savvy, but I would perfer a simple design, not a media desktop with a forward and back button. I would like to receive the Windows XP install disc with the laptop, and
  • be able to use it in diffrent countries, (I'm guessing I need to buy an adapter for that later)

I'm looking to buy a new laptop, as this is a present. I'm thinking an $800 budget would be sufficent for this.
THANK YOU!

You can only get a usb floppy nowadays. Compaq v2000z or Dell e1405 seem like good bets.

The v2000z seems like what I am looking for. Any other suggestions?
Along with a suggestion for an adapter so I would be able to use the laptop in various countries?
Thanks ZaZ.
EDIT: also considering HP dv1000t.
What's the diffrence between the v2000's and v5000?.. They both seem very similar..? Which one would I rather go for?

Hmm..those are pretty good choices...the V2000z(14") has a smaller screen compared to the V5000z(15.4"). If you need 5 - 7 hrs of battery life then definately get the extended battery with any of those laptops.
As for the adaptors...all you should need are the plug adaptors, since most laptops power bricks are rated to operate 110 - 240V.
A travel plug adaptor like this should be fine...
