Take a look at the hp dv9000t or dell e1705 for starters. If you can stretch your budget a bit, look into sager/clevo notebooks.

Re: Gaming desktop replacement notebook
How would the game performance be on the HP with the 2.0 GHz processor, 2gig ram and the 512mb Go 7600?
Answer:
Re: Gaming desktop replacement notebook
Good but it would be better if you get the 7900 gs in the dell e1705. But the 7600 is fine for those games you play.

Re: Gaming desktop replacement notebook
Check the GPU guide for information on video cards.
The HP's Go7600 is a fast card, but it can't even compare with the Dell E1705's optional Go7900GS 256MB. It is one of the most powerful cards on the market. If you want the best gaming performance, the Dell is the superior choice.
However, before you pull the trigger on one of those, consider the Clevo M570U-A from RJTech.com:

Now that's a notebook. Excellent build quality (much higher than the Dell), a sophisticated design, and a Go7800GTX video card, which is a bit more powerful than the Go7900GS. It is a very unique machine, this is not something you see everyday. The only downside to this laptop is its somewhat reduced WXGA+ 1440x900 resolution. Still a nice looking display though. Here's a review of a Clevo M570U - it has some different components, but is the same laptop:

Re: Gaming desktop replacement notebook
The 7600 is about twice as powerful as the 7400--if you can configure the 7600 with 256, it will save you some $$, the card can't really take advantage of more than 256MB. The 7900gs in the e1705 will be a more powerful card.
You can get the go7600/7700 and x1600/1700 in notebooks starting at 14.1 inches, while the most powerful *mobile* card in a 17 inch would be the 7900/7950 series. If you are going with a 17 inch notebook, I would strongly recommend a 79xx series card.
Take a look at for more information.
Edit: Chaz beat me to it again! :(

Re: Gaming desktop replacement notebook
Medium-High, the 7600GS will stretch your limits to "Very High". And don't go into the 512mb GeForce, very usless in my opinon, overall it doesnt improve system/video preformance, more vid. ram does not improve graphics but as much as you pay for, try the dell inspirion e1705, as stated previously by vespoli, and other. It has a top of the line Nvidia GeForce 7900GS w/ 256mb, that should be able to handle your games from "Very High". If you want superior graphics, look into Sager/Clevo, those might be like 2500 for a really nice laptop.
Always seems like someone beats me. . . the likelyness of me helping = nada.

You had a lot of great information in your post that I didn't have. Even if some of the content is the same, it has to be a good thing for the original poster - the same words coming out of two poster's mouths sure is a confidence builder. Cheers. :)

Re: Gaming desktop replacement notebook
Thanks for the informative replies. I have a few questions/comments
That Clevo really looks awesome, but I'm worried about what kind of customer support I'd be getting. Can anyone clarify?
One more thing: Say I wanted a 15 inch widescreen. What would be the best gpu I could get on one of those?
Thanks again
Edit: I just looked at Chaz's video card thread, no need to answer the 15 inch question :D However, all the 15 inchers I look at usually have something lower than the 7600. Any recommendations?
