that would probably do, you could also look into the HP dv6000, it has better build quality and better looks. Also are you getting the edu discount on the Dell? might knock another $100 off of the price.

yeah i customized the notebook using the edu discount and thats the price i got...i don't think its that bad...i would go for a HP dv6000 but my school doesn't get a discount with the newer HP notebooks only the HP Compaqs which i don't like

The Dell Inspiron E1505 is your best bet for a budget gaming-capable notebook. The configuration you posted above is an excellent value for the money, I'd go for it.
