For your budget, it will be difficult to get a notebook which can play the latest games.

Re: cheap laptop for college student.
I'd agree there. For £450 the best you can hope for really is a geforce go 6150 which might JUST play some of the latest games but probably on lowest settings at low res and not great fps. For the latest games the minimum you'd need would be an X1400 or go 7400 level card.
If you really want to buy now, the Compaq v6133EU will be about the best for the money, also the Acer Aspire 5101AWLMi is also a good deal for the money. Both have very good IGPs but will struggle with more advanced games and won't be good on the latest.
Honestly you'd be better saving up another couple of hundred quid and getting something like a HP NC8430. You might be able to get an X1400 or go 7400 level GPU for around £600.

I think for the budget, you're looking at a integrated graphics card probably with a budget processor. Not really game suitable. Though you might find some good deals on Dell, depending on how it goes.

Re: cheap laptop for college student.
I did a lot of research in the past week or two and found these options:
1. HP dv6000t with GeForce Go 7400
2. HP dv9000t with GeForce Go 7600
I chose the second option and paid $983/£503 after student discount
and assuming a $50 rebate goes through. Price included 6% sales tax.
You might also find deals in stores, particularly those with employee
discounts. HP and Toshiba are about the only ones making low-price
laptops with decent video cards.

In the UK you're looking at around £800+ for a dv9000 (from my research anyway.)

I think that depends on how creative you are.

Does the site accept international orders?
Yes, I agree people like us in the UK are being ripped off.. and the pricing only refers to a change in Currency sign but not numbers...

Re: cheap laptop for college student.
I think that depends on how creative you are. No, it doesn't. HP does not offer the level of customisation in the UK that they do in the US. Most laptops here have a pre-determined spec.
