Question:
IBM Z series versus HPdv2000 or 6000
I have tentatively narrowed it down to these two. I am not a road warrior, though I do travel some. I certainly want a reliable notebook, though it will mostly serve as a desk top substitute. I will use a separate monitor, keyboard and mouse. I mostly do word processing, browse the internet, and watch internet video clips. The IBM seems to have the reputation of being more robust and is around $500 more expensive similarly configured. The HP does not come with bluetooth or a port replicator (though Targus makes a universal one that might work). I have heard bad things about service for both.
Your thoughts and comments would be greatly appeciated.

I think the HP is a better choice - the build quality is not as good as on the ThinkPad, but what you are comparing is hard in the first place. ThinkPads are not in the same class as consumer/multimedia HP Pavilions.
You're probably not going to be moving this laptop a whole lot, considering it is hooked up to the external devices, so that means that the extra build quality on the ThinkPad won't do much for you, nor will its increased durability. And, you're not using the built-in keyboard. Those things defeat the purpose of getting a ThinkPad in my opinion.

why don't you get a z61... then you won't have to buy yourself a keyboard :)
anyway, think you opt for the hp if you won't be moving a lot.

You might want to look at the ThinkPad R series. It has all the same docking options as the T or Z, but is not as expesnsive. It is well built with good service and uses many of the same parts as the T. As noted it will not be as good a multimedia machine as the dv2000/6000.
