Question:
Extreme budget (used) laptop
Hi, my old laptop got broken and I don't have much money but I need to have a seccond hand laptop before christmas for about €600, although if there could be some NEW laptop I could spend €720 on it but that's the maximum unfourtunetly :(
Can anyone advise me some cheap laptops with reasnable gaming performance?
I'd like to go for the X700 class. That means X700 or Go 7600.
Will that be possible with my budget?
I already have a offer of a Acer Aspire 1690 for €500 but that's only X600.
I know it will be very hard to buy something reasnable for this price that's why I'm asking for some advise on this forum.
I hope someone can help me...
Thanks a lot in advance,
Kuba.

Thank you for your reply. I actually didn't fill in that form because I think the choise between extreem budget computers is very small anyways so the only 2 preferences will be the GPU and the Price.
I checked used E1505s and 6400s in The Netherlands and they are unfourtunetly over €1000 which is not acceptable for me at the moment :(
Anyways here's the form filled in:
1) What is your budget?
Maximum €600 for a used laptop, €720 if it's new.
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
d. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Gaming and Office
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
For the most time I'll be leaving it on my desk but about once in a month I need it to be portable.
However portability isn't a priority at all for me.
5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
Yes, I'll be playing pretty demanding games like Quake4, GTA:SA, FSX, Civilization 4 and maybe CS.
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
No.
7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
Three hours would be enough.
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
If it's used I'd like to see it before I buy. Otherwise no.
9) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in?
The Netherlands
10) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
I would prefer a standard for gaming, however the games I'll be playing all support widescreen so it doesn't really matter.
11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
Standard
a. XGA -1024x768 - Large and easy to read text + graphics icons, but you fit less stuff on the screen.
b. SXGA - 1400x1050 - Compromise resolution between XGA and UXGA.
Widescreen
d. WXGA or WXGA+ - 1280x768/800 or 1440x900; Wider viewing version of XGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
e. WSXGA+ - 1680x1050; Wider viewing version of SXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
I would prefer a matte/non-glossy.
13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
No.
14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
As long as possible ofcourse, but I know it won't be long as the laptop will be seccond hand.
15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 160GB?
Even 40GB would be enough at this point, as I can upgrade this later and I need the laptop right now.
16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive?
A DVD-RW or DVD-CD/RW would be nice however a DVD-ROM is enough.
I also got an offer for a Acer 5024 WLMI for €660, so that's €60 over my budget but it has an X700 with 128MB and 1568MB of ram (so it must be upgraded by the owner I think)

possibly try to sell the graphics card/working stuff in your broken laptop kuba, or do some computer surgury and transfer the card/stuff from the broken one to the one you are planning on purchasing.
might save some €!

Yeah but you see I don't think I can sell them fast and I need the new laptop before christmas....

Re: Extreme budget (used) laptop
Keep searching the Dell Outlet store.
If you find a solid notebook at a decent price, jump on it -- people snatch them up very fast, especially the "Previously Ordered New" laptops, i.e. the ones that basically were never used because of cancelled orders and such.
Also, I think you can pay a bit extra for expedited shipping, although shipping will be free if you can wait for the slower methods.

Re: Extreme budget (used) laptop
You could try for an Inspiron E1705 at the Dell Outlet store as mentioned. For a new notebook, I think you'll have to go for an Inspiron E1505, with an X1400 GPU.
Incidentally, FSX is such a graphics intensive game, you'll either have to turn off most of the eye candy. You'll need at least a Go 7900 to get decent frame rates at relatively high settings.

Re: Extreme budget (used) laptop
If you can do try your hardest to make the X700 the minimum graphics. Dont even think about an X600 or X1400 for Quake 4 gaming or any kind of decent gaming for that matter. Both of the X600 and X1400 have half the amount of pipelines that the X700 has and if you want any kind of moderate futureproofing for half decent gaming over the next year or so the X700 should be your 'bottom of the barrel'.
:)

Thanks a lot for your replys.
Luckly I managed to borrow a NC8000 from my friend for the Christmas trip so I have a laptop that I can use for work.
That means that I'm still buying a laptop but later so I'll have some more money to spend...
Could you maybe tell me which are the cheapest laptops which have a X700 (or equivelent) and the cheapest for the X800 (or equivelent)?
I'll check on the prices and then buy a new one when I have money, my friend saved me for Christmas :)
Thanks a lot for your help everyone.
