Acer, Asus or ........
Can somebody please help me out with the choice between Acer and Asus notebooks or does somebody know a better one?
it's between:
Asus G1 (see review on this website)
-or-
Acer Aspire 9525WSMi (see review here, german)
just want to know if there is anybody who can help me out, or knows a better option.

The Acer has better specs, like raid0: 2 x 120Gb, Geforce go7900 and 17" instead of 160Gb, Geforce go7700 and 15,4".

Acers tend to not be as well made, and don't have very good support. There ARE some situations where they're workable...got one for my sister last Christmas. She just needed a laptop, and it was the cheapest thing around at the time. But their support definitely stinks....
For your requirements, the G1 fits better anyway. A 17 inch machine isn't very portable; a 15 inch machine will be much easier to carry around (not as easy as a 14 inch machine, but easier than a 17 inch machine).

I am now living in Thailand, and support for both laptops stinks here.
The dimension and weight differences are no problem for me.
Asus: 324mm * 284mm * 37.4 mm(W x D x H),3.1 Kg (8-cell)
Acer: 400mm * 297mm * 33.5 mm(W x D X H),3.95 Kg (9-cell)
I like the Asus too, but the specs are giving me second thoughts....
The 3dmark06 results are killing the Asus

Find a benchmark that uses an actual game...preferably a game you'll be playing. 3DMark is an artificial measurement, and won't always reflect actual performance gain in a real game. Meaning you probably won't get "almost double the FPS" from "almost double the score."
I still recommend the Asus over the Acer. Take it from someone who tried to lug a 17 inch machine around all over the place. That's why I sold it.

I have owned 1 acer in my life, a few years ago. Never again.
Poor quality, poor stability, terrible support.

i was going to wait till end of januari 2007 anyway, because i will be in europe then. Communicating with europeans and americans is easier than with the thai here. :D
