Re: Cheap 17in for grandparents
How low can I get these to be? Im not in a rush so I can afford to sit and wait for a good deal. Iv never bought a 17incher before so Iv got no clue whats a good price for a very basic one. Was going to give them my Lenovo N100 but my father stole it -.-" Dont feel like parting with my MX7515 so might as well get a 17in so it will be better on their eyes.
Also the resolution of my MX7515 is 1280 x 800. Will letters appear larger on a 17in with 1440 x 900? Again my main requirement is the native resolution to be as low as possible while the screen size to be as large as possible.

Re: Cheap 17in for grandparents
I think you'll find the quality as follows:
1) HP (best)
2) Dell (middle)
3) Averatec (last)
I've used consumer and business class laptops from both Dell and HP, and I think HP has the upper hand on build quality and is worth the slight price premium. Plus, the dv9000z (and dv9000t) comes with a number pad...which the e1705 lacks.

Re: Cheap 17in for grandparents
I'd agree with the HP dv9000 series or the Dell e1705. I'd also prefer the HP for the better quality over Dell.

Re: Cheap 17in for grandparents
I would think a 15.4" WXGA notebook would be more than large enough. Plus at that screen size you will have a lot more budget choices.

Re: Cheap 17in for grandparents
I'd go with the Dell e1705.
While overall build quality may not be as good as the HP (I don't really know...) the tech support has gotten much better with dell.
