Gamer/Modeler's First Notebook

Question:
Gamer/Modeler's First Notebook
Hi there, its the first time I'll be buying a laptop since my desktop is pretty old and crappy. I've just started college and I play games quite a bit.
1) What is your budget?
2500 +/- 100 CANADIAN Dollars
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
15 to 17"
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Playing games and using modeling programs such as 3D max and maya.
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
I'll be taking it to school whenever required.
5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
Yes I will. Pretty much any type of games, from the classic to the latest possible. Mostly RPGs, RTSs and simuations.
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
Not really, although I do favour having a good long warranty. My friends has told me that dell is good for that.
7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
Since I've never bought a laptop before I dont know the standard. But I would say 3 to 4 hours would do since my school has power outlets everywhere.
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
No I do not, infact buying it online is the only option since there are no stores around where I live. Reviews and such would be nice though.
9) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in?
Canada.
Screen Specifics
10) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
Doesnt really matter.
11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
I'm good with anything. Just not freakishly hi res so that the next are not too small.
12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
I would prefer a non glossy screen but I'm good with both.
Build Quality and Design
13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
Not really, although doesnt hurt to have a cool looking one.
14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
Within this week. I want it to last as long as possible, hoping to get 3 to 4 years.
Notebook Components
15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 160GB?
anything more than 80gigs is good.
16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive?
CD/DVD+/- RW Burner.
Please keep in mind I live in Canada, and can order from websites that will ship here. Thanks a lot in advance.
EDIT** So far I'm looking at the Toshiba Satellite P105-S9722 or the Dell Inspiron E1705/9400 with some good specs. Any suggestions?

Re: Gamer/Modeler's First Notebook
Definitely going to recommend the Clevo M570U (a.k.a. Sager 5760, Aviator CX7, etc.)
For your budget, nothing is going to be that notebook, in both its build quality and performance.

Arguably the best 17" gaming notebook.

Re: Gamer/Modeler's First Notebook
I have been looking around after I posted this(should have done it before), and indeed the Clevo M570U seems to be one of the best. Which site would be the best to ship to Canada though? Also, I'm willing to extend the budget to 3000$ Canadian(but not more than that). Right now I'm leaning towards the M570U. Any other suggestions?

Eurocom is the one of the largest Clevo resellers in the world and they are based in Canada.
They will price match or beat the price of any competitor with the same notebook, so you should give them a call. The prices on their website should not be taken seriously.
Note: use RJtech.com's price on the Clevo M570U with your wanted specifications to bargain with Eurocom
