3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
I mainly need a portable way to keep in touch with people while I'm off traveling, but I would also like to have a good multi-media package, specifically digital photography.
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
As stated above, I will be traveling.
5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
None.
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
My sister raves about Apple, my dad swears by Dell, I want something that will not break or give me problems.
7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
As many as I can get while staying within a reasonable price range.
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
No.

10) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
No preference.
11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
No idea, this is why I need help.
Standard
a. XGA -1024x768 - Large and easy to read text + graphics icons, but you fit less stuff on the screen.
b. SXGA - 1400x1050 - Compromise resolution between XGA and UXGA.
c. UXGA - 1600x1200 - Very small text and graphics icons, you can fit lots of stuff on the screen.
Widescreen
d. WXGA or WXGA+ - 1280x768/800 or 1440x900; Wider viewing version of XGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
e. WSXGA+ - 1680x1050; Wider viewing version of SXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
f. WUXGA - 1920x1200; Wider viewing version of UXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
I like glossy, but not too particular.
Build Quality and Design
13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
Always fun, but not imperative.
14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
In the next couple of months, I've heard Apple and Microsoft are about to release new stuff. I'd like it to last a while.
Notebook Components
15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 160GB?

If you're not opposed to the idea of a Mac, the MacBook would probably be a pretty good match for you.
Otherwise, something like the HP dv2000t may suit your needs just fine.

I've heard that the durability of Macbooks aren't the best. I'll check out the HP you suggested to compare. Thanks!

Well, with travels comes a few bumps and bruises. I just don't want to be backpacking thru South America and something breaks and I'm screwed. I just really like the photo program that comes with Macbooks and I would probably upgrade.

With the right backpack and sleeve you should be fine with most notebooks. In that case, though perhaps you'll be more interested in a business class notebook like the HP nc6400.

I'd also give the macbook a look. Perhaps the Dell e1405 or even a d620 (on dell outlet) would fit the bill.
