Question:
anything similar to VAIO FE38?
howdy, im a first time laptop buyer living in Australia.
im starting my first year of university next year doing Physiotherapy and ive decided to give up on the old desktop (as its family shared and rather old) and purchase my own laptop.
Ive stumbled across the Sony VAIO FE38 and while i never thought id want to pay the extra money for the Sony label, for some reason im really leaning towards the FE38, which many of you probably know sports the following specs:
15.4" screen
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T7200 (2.00GHz)
1GB DDR2 SDRAM (2 SO-DIMM slots, one occupied)
120GB (C:50GB, D:63GB, HDD Recovery Storage:7GB) Serial ATA, 5400rpm
DVD Burner
NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7600
So my questions are:
Is the FE38 worth the extra money for the looks/label or too expensive?
Is the FE38 Vista ready?
can you recommend a notebook with similar specs to this FE38?
GENERAL QUESTIONS
1) What is your budget?
AU 1800-2500

Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
While im not engineering student who will need the extra processing power, im looking for a laptop thatll be reliable for me for at least a few years to come, while being one that is somewhat on the upper end performance wise. mainly at home, but sometimes to uni.

No
7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
The battery life doesnt really phase me but 2.5+ seems good enough for me.
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
preferably i would like to see the laptop prior, but am not really phased
13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
Yes
14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
this laptop needs to be purchased very soon, and i would like to it last the length of my university course (3 years)
Notebook Components
15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 160GB?
80gb+
16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive?
DVD Burner/player is essential.
am i too picky?

Re: anything similar to VAIO FE38?
I'm not familiar with that number of FE. I think the one I saw was an FE770. But the Sony FE has the best screen I've seen on any model no matter the cost. That's counting all the ones in the normal stores in US, like Toshiba, HP, Sony (including SZ series).

Re: anything similar to VAIO FE38?
I believe the FE38 must be the Australian label for the unit, which can be found here
From a quick looks, it looks to be labelled as the FE790 elsewhere.
Sorry about that.
