Question:
Hey hunnies... first post.. any help would be v.appreciated=)
1) What is your budget?
Um I'd say about 700pounds? What's that, about 1300 us dollars i think (not that it matters - it would cost me a bomb to import, with tax etc..)
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
Don't particularly care what size it is, the smaller the nicer, but no bigger than 15inch ish i'd say, none of this 17inch massive size stuff lol.
I want to beable to take it about with me=)
OKay i started off with that sticky thread at the top, but gave up...
Basicly what i'm going to do with this laptop, is...
- go on the internet
- download music
- store my photos
- write essays
- move around places to cafes with wireless=p
that's it haha
Sooo screen size doesn't matter, though i'd rather have it small, although by small i just basicly mean NOT 17inch lol
Nothing else about the screen matters
graphics? don't understand, so it doesn't matter
Processor? i think the core 2 duo jazz looks good, so maybe that?
Hard disk? I know i'm going to have photos and music, but i can't see me needing 200gb....i think i wouldn't even use up 40gb, so HD space isn't an issue
memory? well if i want it fast, yes please! i like to multitask^^
Aaannd it's gotta look nice:)
And and and... can't think of anythign else.. lol
SO if aaannyone's got any suggestions, i'd love you^^

Hey Catherine
Sounds like mobility is important to you! You'd be surprised how much a laptop can weigh after a while so I'd try to go as small and lightweight as possible.
Based on what you want to do with your machine I'd recommend an Asus A8. You can find a couple of varients of this model here and another two here.
If you look on the second link there's a model for just £620. It features a lightweight 14.1" screen based design weighing in at around 2.4Kg I think (15" are usually around 3Kg). It also has a Core Duo cpu and 1Gb ram which will give you plenty of power. A decent battery coupled with a capable Integrated Graphics Processor should give you plenty of battery life too. It also has excellent build quality, an 80Gb hard drive, a built in 1.3Mpixel camera, looks great and has a 2 year warranty.
That's my recommendation, hope it helps!

I would add that bigger computers tend to have bigger power supplies. The PSU and cables will usually add around 0.5kg to the basic weight. Volume is probably a bigger factor for portability than weight. A bigger computer will need a bigger (= heavier) bag.
A search at www.dabs.com for dual core CPU (preferable for multi-tasking), no bigger than 14.1" display and less than £750 gives 5 results http://www.dabs.com/productlist.aspx...105&PageMode=1 .
If you fancy something more portable there is the Fujitsu Siemens Si 1520 such as at http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Fujit.../version-1.asp . The data sheet at http://www.fujitsu-siemens.co.uk/hom...o_si_1520.html suggests a 4 hour battery life, which should be feasible for a 6 cell battery and 12" display. This would be on my shortlist if I needed high portability.
If you want a larger display without too much weight then Morgan are selling the last of the Samsung X1s http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/sho...ProductID=3800 for just over £700. However, it has a relatively slow CPU.
Hope these thoughts help,
John
