Question:
Help me find a new laptop
General Questions
1) What is your budget?
$2000 CDN
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
b. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
main activities:
Internet browsing, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Listening to MP3s, Watching movies
irregular activities:
Engineering Work (AutoCAD, MATLAB, SCADA/PLC Controls Software), PhotoShop/Image Editing (probably nothing heavy duty though), Protools Audio Editing
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
Moving it around the house and while traveling, so would prefer something that is portable, but not too small. Like being able to hold it in the lap while in bed, etc.
5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
Probably not. I prefer dedicated consoles for gaming.
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
I have a preference for Thinkpads. In my previous job, I had a Thinkpad, and I fell in love with its trackpoint and keyboard. Incidentally, I still have a docking station and power cord for a T43 that I forgot to return after I quit :P.
Haven't really used other laptops all that much to like/dislike them off-hand.
7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
Doesn't really matter. I figure that it will be plugged in most of the time.
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
Don't care.
9) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in?
Canada
Screen Specifics
10) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
I prefer standard because that's what I'm used to, and they seem to be more portable. Correct me if that's not the case, because I wouldn't mind a widescreen otherwise.
11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
Standard
b. SXGA - 1400x1050 - Compromise resolution between XGA and UXGA.
c. UXGA - 1600x1200 - Very small text and graphics icons, you can fit lots of stuff on the screen.
12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
Non-Glossy, i suppose. Not a deal breaker.
Build Quality and Design
13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
As long as it's not ugly and cheap looking. Nothing too wild.
14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
In the next 6 months, and I would like it to last 3-5 years.
Notebook Components
15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 160GB?
80 GB is fine with me. I will use external drives for excess storage.
16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive?
DVD-RW a must.
P.S. I want to maximize on RAM.

Yeah, I was interested in the T60 but browsing around, its price tag seems prohibitive. Where can I get a T60 for 2Gs and shipped to Canada?
